An Act of Kindness

I was at the post office today to send off a package.  I had to pull out my card to pay for what it cost and right after that I left without noticing that I dropped my wallet.  I got in my car and started driving back to work and then realized that my wallet was not on me.

As some of you know, Erin lost had her purse stolen a while ago and we had to go through a lot of chaos to remedy that situation.  All of that flashed through my mind while turning around to go back to the post office.  I got there 5 minutes after the fact and walked to the clerk who served me earlier.  He mentioned that he hadn’t seen a wallet on the counter although he remembers me paying with a credit card. I walked back to my car and started looking inside hoping that it’s under the seat or some where in there.  It was no where to be found!

All of a sudden, a gentleman walks up to me and tells me that he though that the picture on the driver’s license in the wallet he found looked like me.  He said he saw me walking around weary and realized that the lost wallet was mine.

I thanked him and told him he didn’t know how much what he did meant to me. Being the idiot that I am, I forgot to ask for his name or anything for I was still full of anxiety.  He could have done anything he wanted with it, but his kindess prevailed.  People like him remind me that goodness do exist.  Hopefully I will be able to return the deed some day back.  Thank you Sir!

  1. I love it when the world turns out to be kinder and gentler than we expect. Pay it forward!

  2. You’re right!!!! It is good to know that there are kind people in the world regardless of how some may view it. After having my wallet stolen from my purse at work was a horrible experience. Without the support of my husband to help me through that hard time I would be lost.. Also, hearing other peoples stories about being a victim of theft made my experience seem small., in comparison. One woman shared that her daughter was “held up” by gun point right before she entered her home. She could have lost her life. So many people are touched by harm each day. That’s why I believe it is necessary to be kind to others even when others aren’t kind to us. People often call me happy go lucky or tooooooo positive but I accept it as a compliment.. And I want to thank the kind man that who found your wallet. May nothing but goodness follow him all of his days.

  3. Haitham,

First let me say I love the web site. Keep up the good work. You will find that it is a lot of work to keep posting to your site. I look forward to reading many interesting things about what is going on with you, Erin and all our friends.

Second, I love it when people act in a conscientious manner and do the right thing. I think personally that the good people in the worl far outnumber the bad. It’s that 0.1% that give humanity a bad name and unfortunately they are the ones you hear about the most. Thanks for posting this feel good story. I am going to link your web site to mine also and place it on my facebook page. Keep writing buddy and thanks for letting me know about Chris and Ashley’s good news.
